What is her name?
I want to write
about what is in a name. I have heard from so many people the importance
of a name and I had to review my own name. I was amazed at the result.
My name is Aderonke which literarily means “The Crown has seen someone
to pamper”. The name does means something I realized.. I have always
been cherished and pampered wherever I find myself. I am the last born
of the family and my mum calls me baby
or “omo mi” (my child) in Yoruba. The two names are pronounced fondly
and whenever I am disturbing my elder ones, they tell my mum to warn her
child (Mummy, e so fun omo yin) as if they are not her children too. Im
talking too much about myself. Lets go to the book of beginnings
Gen 2:21-23
21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while
he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place
with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken
out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said," This is
now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called
'woman,' for she was taken out of man." NIV
This passage is so
exciting to me and I will like to talk a bit about it. The Bible said
Adam named her woman because she was taken out of man. Hmm that sounds
cool. He named her woman not because she would cook, sweep, give birth,
or even make love to him but because she was taken out of man. He saw
her as a part of him, part of his vision, business, thoughts, desires,
and aspiration. She seemed to fulfill his needs she seems to be strong
in the place of his weakness. She seem to be the person who completed
him.
Mr Man, This is the idea of marriage. Its not about someone who
will give you a roll in the hay (non stop) or wash your dirty undies
but you have to see her as taken out of you, part of you i.e your coming
together makes you complete. It is not just to have a gisting partner
but someone with whom you will share your life (yes, I mean it). The
whole of your life will be shared with her. How I wish it ends here, how
I wish every wife was named woman, cos when the devil reared his ugly
head, another name came up. Lets check it out.
Gen 3:20 Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.
After the fall and the Curse, the named changed, became less personal
and more public. He named her Eve, Mother of all the living. Some people
feel it’s a more glamorous name because she was named the mother of all
living. I beg to differ, She prefers to be called your sweetheart than
the savior of the world. Eve, looks more like Mama junior, Mummy Bisi
e.t.c. This change of name still happens now. After the honeymoon and
the great shape wears off, we seem to forget the name Woman and call her
Eve. We see her more as the Housekeeper, or as he mother of my
children. The children are now more important, the stolen kisses and
hand holding becomes hisses, and monotone replies. She now looks old and
you don’t want her to be seen with you In public and the woman
unknowingly begins to act out that name and now focuses more on her
children, her friends, and even her career, she becomes the mother of
this project and that party. She forgets that she was taken out of man.
She seemed to prefer to be Eve.
My Husband told me playfully not to
call my son ”Oko mi”. It literarily means my husband but yoruba’s use it
as a name of affection. I thought it was no big deal until some time
ago. Now the name is only for My Husband. Everyone should have his or
her own space…and name. It is so sweet to form loving names for each
other but you have to search your heart to know what you call her there.
You can call her sweetie pie but treat her like bitter bile. You can
call her my love, but she is really your maid. You can call her darling,
but she is your bank.
This write up is majorly for men. Are you
married or planning to. What do you or do you plan to name her. Think
deeply about it and you must do all it takes for the name to stick for
years to come (Jesus is an expert in keeping the love fresh). I know
what my husband calls me by his mouth and with his heart. Though the
names are similar, I think I prefer that of the heart. Im sorry I can’t
tell you cos its our secret.
Miss/Mrs, What will you like to be
called. Please act it. Make it easy for your man to name you what you
want. That is what I call woman power. Aderonke is my name and I still
enjoy the dividend of that name but God calls me more than that. He
calls me Beulah, Hephzibah, Precious, Victor, e.t.c. He is ready to
rename you and give you a precious name, in case you don’t have a
relationship with him, why don’t you repeat this after me.
Lord
Jesus, I believe I am A Sinner and I believe you died for my sin. I
believe in the love you are offering and I accept your love. Forgive me
my sins and make me a new person in you. Thank you for accepting me. I
love you too. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
